Our First Letter From Indiana

Friday, February 6, 2009

Dear Family,

There’s a lot I want to say, and I hope I can get it all down.  First off, I’m sorry that I didn’t send an e-mail this week.  My companion and I got to the library to e-mail and I had forgotten what my username and password was.  I have it written down, but I left it back at our apartment and we didn’t have enough time to go back for it.

Our trip from Salt Lake to Indiana was interesting.  The first flight was uneventful. It took about 2 1/2 hours to get to Cincinnati.  We then had an hour layover before getting on a “puddle jumper” that brought us to Indiana.  As we took off on the runway, a light went off on the pilot’s dashboard.  He hit the brakes and coasted to an empty area along the runway to tell us that something was wrong with the plane!  After about 2 hours of sitting there, we found out that there was a leaky fuel pump in one of the engines.  They fixed it and we eventually made it to Indiana in one piece!

When we arrived, we found out that Indiana was having one of the biggest snowstorms in years.  We got about 18 inches of snow in one night.  We stayed overnight in the Mission Home, and I met my companion, Elder Bryner, the next afternoon.

Elder Bryner is a great trainer.  He is really focused on missionary work, and obedience to the mission rules is very important to him.  He grew up in Logan, UT and has been here for 13 months.

From what I’ve been told, I showed up in Lebanon (by the way, that’s the city I am in at the moment) at the wrong time.  They just had 2 baptisms the week before I got here so now we are starting from scratch.  It’s OK though, I have a good feeling about this.  The first full day that I was here we met a great person, her name is Amber.  Amber is one of our new investigators who seems very promising.  I hope that we can get her baptized!

I am having tons of fun out here, and I know that this is the place I am supposed to be.  The people here are very friendly, even if they don’t want to listen to us.  It seems that in about every 100 doors I knock on, one is willing to listen.  But those that are willing to listen, seem ready for the gospel.

I have to go, but if you have any questions, write them down and send them to me.  I will try to answer them when I can.  By the way, P-day is Tuesday for me.

The address on the envelope is my address in Lebanon.  You can send letters or packages there until I’m transferred.  I love you all very much, and hope that everything is OK.  Just know that you have a missionary praying for you each day!

Love,

Elder Savage
