Wet and Snowy Connersville, Indiana
Tuesday, January 26, 2010
Dear Family,
It sounds as if you have had a very exciting week. Hopefully, Dad and everyone else are safe without any more accidents. I guess now I know what it is like to find out about someone in an accident over email. I didn't think what it would sound like when I told you about what happened in Bedford. Pretty strange.
We have been doing well as well. We have been getting a lot of snow for about the past 18 hours or so. I hope it stops soon because the more snow we get, the harder it gets for Elder Gasser and I to walk around. It looks like it takes about 4-5 days to get the storms that you guys have. It probably also depends on how bad and fast the storm is. The really bad part around here is that we get really wet snow. It is so very easy to go sliding on it. I have already had about three slips this year. Each one hurt my pride more than my body, but it just isn't fun to get wet and cold.
I remember spirit week back home. Now that I have moved on from High school, I wish that I had participated in more stuff like that. To be able to have some more good memories. I guess the best thing to do is just learn from the past, and make the here and now that much more memorable. I do still remember the one time I ate a Habanero Pepper in that school assembly. I hope to never do something that stupid again. It was very painful.
My week has been good. Our investigators, Stacy and her Father Steve, are planning on moving. The bad part is that Stacy has lived with her boyfriend for about the past 3-4 years, and she wants to get baptized. We told them that they either had to move out, or get married. Sadly, Stacy said that it looks like Pete doesn't want to get married. So, she has made the decision to move out with her Father. The only problem, Stacy hasn't told Pete yet. We just don't want to get into the middle of a domestic dispute. So, we will be walking very carefully for the next little while. We are glad that Stacy is making the right decision, but we just don't want to make things really bad. I guess all we can do is hope and pray.
We had another neat experience yesterday. Elder Lewis and I had originally talked to a mother (Shilo) and her step-daughter (Shaina) about three months ago. They were both very interested in learning at the time. Then, they had this big blowout and Shaina had to move out. We lost track of her, and no one could tell us her exact address or anything like that. They just told us which street she lived on, and what the surrounding area looked like. Well, sadly Shilo hasn't been doing what she needs to, so Elder Gasser and I have decided that we need to stop going by there and instead find someone else to visit. Well yesterday, we decided to take the long walk out to Gray Rd; it is the street which Shaina lives on. It took us about an hour of walking, up and down hills, through a lot of snow and wind before we finally got there. Then, we started searching for her house. It is a very long street. Somehow, we miraculously found it, and it was only the second house we tried on the street. We found that she was still interested, and we set up a time that we can sit down and visit with her. We are really excited about that.
There are so many really cool things that happen out here every day, but I think that we start to take them for granted. We get to used to them, and I think we will miss them when this all ends. I just want to start writing them down better, so that I can remember them.
As for Jay, the singer in the band, and Rusty, they are both doing well. It is hard to get people here in Indiana to just sit down and read, but they are doing well. Elder Gasser and I hope to be able to help them understand the importance of reading the Book of Mormon. We try to teach that, but it just seems that only specific people end up being able to do that.
Thanks again for all that you guys do. Know that I am doing well, and trying to take care of myself. The work is going great, and I am excited to be serving here at this time. I know that I was meant to find these people in Connersville. This just strengthens my testimony even more about the fact that the Lord truly does know all. I don't have to worry about anything, as long as I am willing to listen to and follow the promptings of the Spirit.
Thanks for all that you guys do for me. Things are going great out here. I will just keep working hard, and the miracles will keep coming. They always do. I love you all, and everyone take care.
Love,
Elder Savage
