At Least For Another Week
Tuesday, February 2, 2010
Dear Family,
It is good to hear that everyone is doing well and taking care of themselves. I am trying my best to do the same out here. Bundling up and staying warm…
I can't believe that I will never get to see baby Briggs until he is a year old. It is just weird how things change over time. Change isn't bad at all, but it is a little surprising at times. I have gotten used to change out here on my mission, but it doesn't mean that I always like all of the changes. Speaking of that, transfers are coming up next Tuesday and Wednesday. I have been in Connersville for three transfers now, and that means that I will stay and beat my record from Bedford or President Corey will decide to send me somewhere else. I don't know which one it is going to be, but remember to not send any packages or letters directly here so that they don't get left behind. Thanks
Elder Gasser and I are enjoying the weather here in Connersville. Since the last time I talked to you the temperature dropped down to the low teens again, but starting yesterday, it is going back up. I wish it would just make up its mind, but I don't think that I am going to get my wish. Oh well. I am willing to take anything if it doesn't mean too much snow for Connersville. We haven’t gotten much this year so far, and I hope that we continue not to. It just makes our job so hard.
It is difficult at times to have investigators that are doing so well, and then they make a poor choice. We just wish that they would accept what would give them the greatest happiness, but that doesn't mean that all of our wishes come true. Most of our investigators are doing well though. We met with Jay, Brian King, and Steve/Stacy/And Pete this past week.
Jay's meeting was great. We went over and watched the Restoration DVD on their Big Screen T.V. with him and Jaci, his fiancé, it was really cool. After, Jay said that it helped him understand things a little bit better. Then, we talked to them about the temple and eternal families. That really peaked their interest, and they are willing to learn more.
Last night, we sat down with Brian King. He had already met with the missionaries some time ago, but due to a miss communication, they lost contact. We were able to knock on their door again, and get back in contact with them. We visited for a little while with him last night, and then we decided to read out of 1 Nephi 1 with him. It was really cool because as he came to the verses we asked him to read, he would try to explain what they meant to him. I think it has given him a greater desire to continue to read out of the Book of Mormon on his own time.
The weird situation is Steve, Stacy, and Pete. We don't know exactly what is going on with them at the moment. For a while, we thought that Stacy had decided to leave Pete and find a different place to stay at with her father and kids, but it doesn't look like it is going to happen any time soon now. There were some complications. Now though, Pete seems to be coming around and is more willing to come and try out church. He has said himself that he can't know for himself until he tests it out. We are just trying to get them to come to church. This last Sunday was really cool because Steve and his other daughter Connie came to Sacrament Meeting. Sadly, they weren’t able to stay for all of it, but it was still really exciting to have them there. They tried to follow along with the singing, and we are just really excited for them. They said that they would also come back again next week. We are going to continue to hope and pray for them.
Thanks for taking care of the B-Day cards I sent. I think that they will really like them. Did Annie get her belated birthday card? It was a really funny one, and I think that she will like it. It was one of those Hoops and Yoyo cards. It really made me laugh.
Is Grandma doing OK still? I sometimes worry about her health. I just want to still have a happy, healthy grandma when I return home. Tell her happy birthday for me, and that I said she needs to take good care of herself.
I am going to try and do a little bit better in my journal writing. Not only for the talks after my mission, but it would be nice to be able to have that to look back on in the future, and enjoy the memories of the past. I hope that I will be able to keep it up, with my scripture reading, when I get home.
Once again, thanks for the support. It is always nice to get news from home. It helps me have a better peace of mind as well. I will keep working hard, and do my very best each day. I have learned that our best is all the Lord expects of us, but we need to remember to give our best efforts. Sometimes I forget that the Lord knows when I am not trying my hardest, but as always, he is forgiving and understanding. That is why I am so grateful for his sacrifice and love. Thanks again.
Love,
Elder Savage
