From Terre Haute, Indiana...

Dear Family,

As you can tell from the subject, I am in the city of Terre Haute, IN (terra ~ rhymes with goat). It is about an hour’s drive from Indianapolis in a slightly southwestern direction. The city is large enough to house 2 sets of missionaries. One side works the southern end, and my side is the northern end. My new companion is Elder Pinckney. He is from Utah as well. He has been on his mission for about 7 1/2 months now. He is a great missionary. He is really dedicated to the work which makes my job easier, and he is willing to learn and grow. Elder Pinckney is also really funny, and he and I have a lot in common. I hope that we will be able to do some great work here in Terre Haute.

My new address is :

3158 N. 19th St.

Terre Haute, IN 47804

We live in a really nice apartment. I also have a large, very comfortable bed. I think that it might even be a queen-sized bed. I am really liking it. Things are going well here. I was a little sad at first to leave Connersville, but I know that the Lord sent me here for a reason.

I have one new addition to my area that I have never had before…a college campus. In addition to the Wabash area, the north side, we also cover Indiana State University campus. It is really cool because we get to talk to and work with people our own age. I have done a few days work on a campus before, but it will be cool to serve on one full time. It is also cool to have a bunch of Young, Single Adults in the ward. It also makes things way fun.

This past week has been amazing. We have really worked hard here, and have seen some amazing miracles and blessings come from it. We met a couple of investigators that had met with the missionaries in times past. One of them, Vince, believes that the church is true. It is just his family that is keeping him from joining. Basically, our job is to either help his family come around, or help him understand that he has to make the right decision even when it is hard.

We also met this guy named Jeff a few days ago. He had also met with the missionaries before. His mother is a less-active member of the church. He is really interested in learning as well. We hope to not only be able to get a new member of the church through him, but to also reactivate a less-active member.  He will be really neat to work with.

So, life is good here. The members are great. Our Ward Mission Leader, Brother Palmer, makes sure that we have a meal appointment every single night. I am afraid that I will gain too much weight here in Terre Haute. I am going to have to start really exercising to lose all of the extra weight. The city here is great. It is a little run down, as is most of Indiana from the loss of factories, but that just makes people more humble and willing to learn. We have two Super Walmart stores here, which is nice since Connersville didn't even have one. I think that I am really going to like it here.

My new bishop is Bishop Magianous (that is definitely not the right spelling). He is a native of Mexico who moved to California, and then finally to Indiana. He is an amazing man. We ate with his family on Sunday, and we had a blast. He also really likes very spicy food. He has this hot sauce called “The Bomb”. You should look it up on the Internet. It is made out of Habanero extract. It is one of the hottest sauces you can buy! He just loves it.

There isn't much left to tell. Life is good. The missionary work is great. I don't really need anything at the moment. If you guys want any specific news or if you have any questions, let me know.

Thanks for all that you do.

Love,

Elder Savage

“The Bomb” hot sauce

Caboom! That’s what your colon

will say after you down a few drops of this hot sauce.

Not for beginners...If you think you can handle

the heat, go ahead and try...
